Bringing out the kid in everyone: The Pride of Texas Carnival! They're back this year with even more rides! The Pride of Texas Carnival has new rides for the little kids to ride this year; which will make you want to buy a bracelet for your child so they can ride the rides all night long. They've got "Oooo's and Awww's" for the tikes and the thrills and chills for the "big kids". Just remember to ride the rides FIRST, then go for the church lady food, it's safer for everyone that way. They'll be open every night from 6:30-11:30 p.m.
You can get your $5 discount coupon for the bracelets in West Wide Story for Wednesday night and at Jim's Foodliner and White's IGA in Goddard for Thursday night.
Oh, My Gosh Becky! It's Mutton Busting! We have to get there early, I know it starts at 6, but I want really fabulous seats. And then of course, we'll have to stay to watch the BULL BLOWOUT! What sets a girl's heart a ticking more than cowboys and livestock on the PBR Discovery Tour? I haven't the faintest idea. Prices you ask? Well, if we get our tickets in advance they'll be $10 for us adults and $6 for the kids between the ages of 6-10. If we wait until we get to the gate then the tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for the kids, and the best part, the kids who are under 5 get in for free. I am so excited!
Bull Blowout: Friday, 7:00, July 11th
On the night when it's Dad's turn to cook or Mom is simply too tired to slave over a hot stove to feed her unruly brood dinner, load up the car and take the short drive out to the fair grounds to sample some of the best fair food around. Billy can have his pizza, Bobby Sue can have her corn dog, and Mom and Dad can have some scrumptious church lady chicken & noodles and pie.

Feel like busting up some Detroit Pig Iron? Get a jalopy and join the action at the Sedgwick County Fair. Many contestants will find willing sponsors to provide cars in return for advertising painted on the vehicle. All you need is a valid driver's license and, if under 18 years of age, a parental consent. The whole idea of course, is to drive onto the track arena with a number of other contestants and proceed to wreck as many other cars as possible while keeping your own car running. No holds barred, except deliberate head-on collisions and drivers door crashes are prohibited. The survivors will share in cash prizes and trophies. There will be four to three heats at each derby scheduled, plus a feature event for the finalists. Drivers interested should contact the fair for rules and regulations immediately, call Bret Albers @ 540-3151 or 540-3430 for information.
Or download the rules and entry form here in Adobe Acrobat format (pdf) - 200k.
Another attraction you don't want to miss at this year's fair is the Fair Idol Contest. Sixteen hand-selected performers will vie for the first ever Fair Idol title. A panel of judges and those with fair buttons in the audience will vote for their top choice each night of the competition. The winner takes home $500.
Get your green thumb ready to pick the brains of the Sedgwick County Extension Master Gardeners. They will be on hand to answer any questions about planting and landscaping trees. The Master Gardeners are sure to have great tips and ideas for those looking to plant a new tree in their yard.

Running a little short on cash? The Central Star Credit Union's mobile ATM will be on the fairground to handle all your greenback needs.
Art's and Mary's is sponsoring the Car Show at this year's fair. The show will be on Saturday at 9 am. The show is free for all participants and spectators. The fairgoers will vote on their favorite car in each of the categories. It's going to be lots of fun and chips down at the car show. People who are interested in registering a car can contact Jeff Albers at 316-542-0404.
