Fair Guide

Liz's Blog

That time of year!

The sound of combines and the sight of fireworks stands’ every mile, this must mean that it’s getting close to the Sedgwick County Fair. Yep, I just checked the calendar, and like a sunrise followed by a sunset, the fair comes every year the week after the 4th of July. It’s like clock work, it never fails, and helps me remind me of how much summer I have left until I have to head back up to Emporia for school.
Since I still have a few weeks left, allow me to give you the reader’s digest version of why I have gone to the fair every year since before I can remember. The first reason was because why get a babysitter when you can take the kids and wear them out so they’ll sleep. The second reason, before my stomach of steal gave out, and became the stomach of hurl when I spun around to quickly was the rides. Third, I love to shop, and occasionally I have found some fabulous treasures that I couldn’t live without. And the most important reason for going to the fair: the food.
I might have to go to the gym twice as much to make up for every delicious morsel that crosses my lips, but it is worth every single nibble. It really is a good thing that the fair goes on for 3 ½ days, because if it didn’t I would have to have someone wheel me out while I go into a food coma from all of the deliciousness.
So remember, like clock work every Wednesday to Saturday after the 4th of July is the fair. I better see each and every one of you there! I’ll be near the food, which is right next to the main entrance, so I’ll know if you came or not…

WOW! What a day!

The weather was Fair-lious, the Bar-B-Q tasty, the Demo Derby a crashing good time! A big Fair congrats to 15-year-old Megan Boldea who was named the 2007 Sedgwick County Fair Idol. Check out pics of all the highlights in the photo gallery. I'll wrap it up for you after my nap.

The Perfect Evening

Friday was a simply perfect evening at the fair. We had great weather and lots of good friends to share it with. The fairgrounds were packed with people coming to see the Bull Blowout, ride carnival rides, chow down on Pronto Pups, and just have a good time!

The Bull Blowout was fantastic! There were cowboys everywhere and their thrilling rides were big crowd pleasers. Thank you to our sponsors, Rusty Eck Ford and KFDI, for making the fun evening possible!

Fair Idol was again one of my favorite events. I was still amazed at what talent we have residing right here in Sedgwick County! Congratulations to our finalists, who are:
Derrick Casley
Megan Boldea
Denver Aikin
Polly Foust
Don't miss tonight's finale! The competition is fierce and the contestants will need all the applause, cheering, and votes they can get!

Also tonight is the Demolition Derby. There's nothing better than watching beat up old cars rip each other to shreds, so grab the whole family and come on out for a roarin' good time!

And to finish up the fair season, there will be a street dance at the Open Air Arena. Bring your honey out and dance the night away under the stars!

Can't wait to see you all there!

Bob, Tattoos, and Parades!

It was a spectacular Thursday in Cheney, and we couldn't have asked for a better "BOB day!" The Bobmobile was on the scene to greet fairgoers and cruise down Main Street in the parade.

It was a big day for me as well, because I got my first tattoo! Well, it's not a real tattoo, but close enough. I made a stop by the on-site airbrush tattoo booth for a little personalized artwork this afternoon. I think my Delta Gamma anchor turned out great, don't you? (Shout out to all my DG sisters!!)

Despite my exciting new tattoo, today's highlight was, of course, the parade! Main Street was lined with folks from all over cheering on the floats and performances. There were bikers, antique cars, beauty queens, and fire engines. The kids were going crazy collecting all the candy from the floats, and everyone had a grand old time! A big thank you goes out to the Sedgwick County Sheriff's department for coming out and supporting the fair!

Don't forget! Friday is Bull Blowout night...including my number one reason to visit the fair- The Circle of Fear! You won't want to miss it!
